Our Winner for February, 2010: Natasha M. (age 6), Reno, NV
I love my Pets because they complete my family. I adopted my cat named Thrusday from a animal shelter. He is cuddly. I have two dogs. Their names are Lily and Bruno. They have beautiful names. I have a fish named "Perry the Hairy Fish" He does tricks. My little sister has a hamster, she lives in a weird cage. She did not like her old one. All of my pets are amaizing. I got to name a barred owl that was hit by a truck and now lives with a wildlife rehabilitater. I named her Lovea. I am now saving up my allowance to sponsor another injured owl here in Reno. You would love all of my pets because they are fun and beautiful.

I had a cage put out to catch a skunk. Instead, a stray Silky Terrier without tags was caught and rescued. He was thin, matted, and covered all over with prickly burrs. It took hours to clean him up. Now this grateful dog wakes me up in the mornings. He barks and opens the bathroom door if I stay in there too long. When I come home, my little bundle of joy jumps and rolls over, as if to say, "My Human is home and all is well."

Feeling a little blue? Not on Max's watch! This is the moment for slobbery licks and the cute, quizzical head twist, as if to ask, "How dare you look so miserable when I am so cute, loveable ... and not to mention ... IN YOUR FACE!!!" Not well? He makes a wonderful 'space-heater' and snuggle-buddy. Feeling spunky!? So is Maximoose! "Now where is that indestructible ball of mine" or “Maybe … A ride!!! I want to hang my face out the window and slobber all over the car … pleeeeeease!?” This … is why I love my Maximoose!

In my case it would have to be: Why I love my Pets. I'm a rescuer and am never without (at least) three dogs. Why I love them is easy. They love me. Unrequitted-love is my least favorite form of affection. With my dogs I try to treat them as well as they treat me. As per breeds, I favor Pit Bulls as they are so numerous (deserted and abused) on the streets of L.A. And, though I find them the most affectionate of breeds, sadly, the owners usually are not so nice. I take the discarded and abused and treat them the way they deserve to be treated. To paraphrase a famous American-Humorist,
"I've never met a DOG I didn't like."

I took in a batch of foster puppies from the local rescue shelter. I already had a great dog and I was not looking to keep a puppy, especially a male and a mixed bred, only have purebreds all my life. But I knew something was special about "Randolph". While his sister would go out to play, he would stay always by my side. So I kept him. He came to save my life not only once, but twice. Once from a potential gas explosion and once from an attacker. Where would I be without him. We are deeply bonded forever.
