Here is your chance to let everyone know how much your pet means to you. Tell us (in 100 words or less) why you love your pet. Selected essays will be posted on our website and each month TEN lucky entries will win a copy of The Merck/Merial Manual for Pet Health, a new pet health resource for owners, available wherever books are sold.

My name is Lydia and I am 8. My favorite pet is my cat "Moses" that I adopted from my veterinarian. I like my cat Moses because he is nice and doesn't try to hurt people. He usually likes to play. When we adopted Moses he was in a cage and he patted my little brother Wyatt on the head with his paw very softly. He is a black cat that likes to sleep in the sinks. A picture is here for you to see him.

Our dog Satchmo chose us. He is a labrador, coonhound mix. He decided he wanted to come home with us when we held him, he wrapped his paws around my husband's arm. Satchmo loves being part of our pack and sleeps in our bed at night. When we started letting him sleep with us he was 8 pounds and now he is 114! He talks to us , but he doesn't say any words yet. Satchmo has made us a well rounded family.

We love our Max! He is a six month old St. Bernard who is not just a dog. He is part of my family. He is my very best friend. He loves to play dress up and always tries to sit on me or my mom's lap. He thinks he is small but he is very big, even bigger than me. He just makes my heart happy inside and when I am sad he even licks my tears. He loves to chase balls and sneak food and lay on our couch and watch TV with us but I love him mostly because he loves me.

Every time I get up from my seat my dog Pom Pom runs over and steals it. When I try to get my seat back he pretends to be asleep. Even when I am still at my seat he squishes me so I have to get out of it. Another reason I love my dog Pom Pom is that when I get home from school, he begs to go inside to get a cookie and he tries to feed it to his toy's. This is why I love my pet.

Sophia is a darling 3yo shetland sheepdog (Sheltie) whom blessed my life the second she entered it. Sophia has a heart of gold and is very sensitive around other animals and children. She is an avid swimmer, we have so much fun going to play fetch in the river and she loves when mommy and daddy jump in on a hot summer day, she thinks she is part fish. Sophia is always by our sides, on the shortest trip, even at work, we love her deeply and she has truly brightened our lives.
